András Schiff a fait de l’univers pianistique de Schubert l’aventure de toute une vie. « Sa musique est la plus humaine que je connaisse, la plus personnelle », confie-t-il, touché par sa modestie et son humilité. Il invite à s’immerger dans les quatre grands recueils pour piano seul écrits par le compositeur dans les mois qui ont précédé sa mort. Des pages virtuoses mais d’une profonde intimité, souvent rapprochées pour leur parenté de format et de ton, miniatures d’une apparente spontanéité mais d’une écriture parfaitement domptée. András Schiff, qui les a enregistrées sur piano d’époque, fait sourdre à la perfection l’essence vocale et la poésie de ces chants sans paroles.
